Code-Compliant Windows for Basements and Bedrooms
If you’re finishing a basement or adding a bedroom below grade, Michigan building code requires an egress window that provides a safe exit in an emergency. Avalon Remodeling installs egress windows and the required window wells, cutting the foundation opening to the correct size and grading the well for proper drainage.
Our Egress Window Process
Cutting, Framing, and Well Installation
Installing an egress window involves cutting a new opening in the foundation, framing and waterproofing the opening, setting the window, and installing a properly sized and drained window well. We handle each step in-house so the finished opening meets code and keeps water out.
What Size Does an Egress Window Need to Be?
Michigan building code generally requires egress windows to provide a minimum clear opening of 5.7 square feet, along with minimum height and width requirements and a sill height no more than 44 inches from the floor. Avalon Remodeling confirms the exact requirements for your project during permitting.
Built to Meet Code and Keep Water Out
Because an improperly installed egress window can leak or fail an inspection, our crew follows local code requirements and proper waterproofing methods on every installation. Egress window projects are backed by our workmanship guarantee.
